Collagen Peptides Supplement – it works for me!

Move over, protein shakes and green smoothies, there is a new trend on the rise and you don’t have to give up your morning coffee (or any hot or cold beverage of your choice) to get in on this goodness. Collagen. Collagen, collagen, collagen. All the sudden, that word is everywhere. Now, I’m sure Paleo and Whole 30 eaters have been hearing this word for a while. After all, one purpose for drinking and cooking with bone broth is because it is collagen-packed. But it seems as though everyone wants a piece of this trend. So why, exactly, is collagen so good for us? And how should you get it into your diet?

Abundant Protein

Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in our bodies. In fact, our hair, skin, nails, bones, muscles, and tendons are largely made up of collagen. Like everything else in our lives, aging and stress are the culprits and lead to reduced collagen production. This is where collagen supplements come in, either in the form of a pill or powder. Collagen supplements promise to give you glowing skin, strong and long hair and nails, and healthy, pain-free bones and joints. Also, and this happens to be the main reason why I started taking collagen supplements, it can help heal the lining of your gut.

So, what’s the best way to incorporate collagen into your diet? Well, my favorite method is to mix a serving of collagen powder into my coffee. I love Vital Proteins Grass Fed Pasture Raised Collagen Peptides. It is unflavored and boasts 18 grams of protein, which is perfect for me since my GI issues don’t allow me to tolerate protein powders. I know what you’re thinking, does this stuff really work? Has anyone actually seen a difference? YES!! Personally, I have seen a difference in my nails and eyelashes. Yes, ladies, my eyelashes are noticeably thicker and longer and my nails are growing like weeds. My mom was having a chronic pain in her hip. She started using the collagen powder and taking supplements back in December, and within a few months her pain was totally gone. Additionally, a client of mine had back inflammation and swears that he now is cured after a few weeks of incorporating collagen in his diet.

Quick and Easy Recipe

Here’s a quick little recipe that I tried the other day and I swear it tasted like a creamsicle:

  1. 2 scoops of Collagen Peptides
  2. ½ c of Orange Juice
  3. 1 cup of Water
  4. Shake and voilà!

Do you take collagen supplements? Have you noticed any changes?

I\’ve been taking Sports Research collagen peptide vanilla flavor powder in my coffee for about 1 1/2 months now and my eyelashes are fuller. I\’m hoping to get some joint pain relief, so I\’ll keep taking it. It tastes pretty good too. I\’ll try chocolate flavor next month.
