Recipe of the Month: Annie’s Protein Dip

Posted & filed under Dishin' with Annie, Recipes.

Okay guys, I need you to trust me here. This recipe is quite unique but I PROMISE you it is even more delicious! This little creation came about as I was cooking and had some extra chicken. I put my wizardry skills to work and, voilà!!

I know this probably sounds totally cray cray as I am a personal chef and surrounded by food alllllll day long, but I usually do not eat enough and really need to up my calorie intake. Animal protein is especially hard for me to eat. I mean I could eat ice cream all day long, but I’m just not going to go bonkers over a big, juicy steak. Why am I telling you this? Because this is the very reason that this idea came to mind. The math is really simple. Doesn’t eat much meat + LOVES dips (buffalo chicken dip, anyone?) + need to up calorie and protein intake = PROTEIN DIP!!Savory Protein Dip

I call it “protein dip” because its base is…yep you guessed it, chicken, AKA the most common lean protein in the world. All right, maybe not the world, I didn’t research it or anything, but you get my drift.

This is perfect for people trying to up their protein intake or someone who might not be a huge fan of eating meat. It’s also great for anyone on a low carb diet, soft-food diet (e.g. the elderly, or those with dental or swallowing issues), and it’s especially great for sneaky parents to give to their babies or toddlers! Spread it on a sandwich, dip it with chips or veggies, just eat it up however you like and savor every bite!

  1. 6oz boneless skinless chicken breast* (or any quantity you want)
  2. 1/8 cup water (can add more if needed) SLOWLY add this so consistency isn’t too watery
  3. Add-ins of your choosing (see in directions below)

Boil chicken until just done, then shred. Next, throw chicken in food processor or use immersion blender (my personal preference) to puree chicken. SLOWLY add water until it gets to your desired consistency, mine was like hummus.

Sweet Protein DipI made a savory dip with a kick and added salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Sriracha. I also made a sweeter batch and added Dijon mustard, maple syrup, and chopped pecans…and used apple slices for dipping! Next up, I’ll be trying a Buffalo chicken style, but the possibilities are truly endless!

*Feel free to try turkey breast or ground chicken or turkey!

Go whip up a batch and let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
