Homemade Fun Dough

Posted & filed under Dishin' with Annie, Recipes.

So, now that summer is upon us, that means school is out and the kiddies are at play – all day! For this week’s blog, I decided to take this post away from food, but of course keep it in the kitchen! Read on for my homemade fun dough recipe!

Isla and Zeke making fun doughThis is an original recipe from my Mama; she used to make it with us when we were kids. I recently made this over the weekend, while I was on baby-sitting duty with my friend’s two adorable children – Isla and Zeke. I was reminded just how much fun it is to make (and play with!). The “recipe” comes together super quickly, which is great for short attention spans, and it is made with common household ingredients – and if you do not have food coloring on hand, no worries, white fun dough it is!

Fun dough nailsWe all had a great time with it – making “pretzels” and all sorts of things. Isla and I even “painted” our nails!

This dough is technically not edible, but it also will not harm you if choose to sample it, so is great for little guys that like to put everything in their mouths! I hope you enjoy this fun, quick and easy recipe in the kitchen.

  1. Mix 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt and 2 teaspoons cream of tartar in saucepan. (Do not omit the cream of tartar!)
  2. Add 1 cup water, 1 tablespoon cooking oil, and food coloring as desired.
  3. Cook, stirring, for three minutes or until mixture pulls away from the pan. Knead immediately.

Store in an airtight container.

This recipe makes enough dough for about six children to use.  Have fun!!
